I don’t know how it happened, but suddenly there is only one weekend left before Thanksgiving. For the life of me I just can’t figure out where the days have gone. Halloween was seemingly just a few days ago, and I am already feeling bombarded with television ads suggesting that if I cared about my loved ones, I would buy them diamonds or a Lexus. It is amazing to me how the retail industries struggle for the legal tender now dictates our seasons. If it were not for the grocery stores sending me ads promoting freezers full of turkeys, it is possible I could miss Thanksgiving altogether.
Maybe it’s the idea of early settlers hunting a wild turkey and gathering their crops for a harvest feast that intrigues me. I would guess it was not nearly as glamorous of a meal as the paintings depict, but the thought of a wild turkey for Thanksgiving just sounds good. All at once it occurred to me that I do have a Wild Turkey…… in the liquor cabinet, and how good would that be? Time to mix up a festive holiday cocktail. All this turkey talk has made me thirsty. I am ready for a Cranberry Gobbler.
- 1 ½ oz Wild Turkey
- ½ oz Applejack brandy
- 4 oz cranberry juice
- squeeze of lime
- sprig of fresh thyme
- fresh cranberries
-
Pour Wild Turkey, brandy, and cranberry juice into a tall glass or wine goblet.
-
Stir well.
-
Fill glass with ice and garnish with a squeeze of lime, a sprig of fresh thyme, and a few whole cranberries.
So when your guests start “talkin’ turkey” this holiday grab a glass and mix up some of these festive drinks, they’re sure to have your friends “gobbling” in no time.
Happy Thanksgiving!
